Description
When replacing a wheel brake cylinder, a set of brake shoes, or during regular maintenance, the rear axle nut on most VW models needs to be loosened to remove the brake drum. First, remove the split pin, block the rear wheel with a locking bar, and loosen the rear axle nut with the correct wrench.
If the rear axle nut is damaged during removal, do not reinstall it, but replace it. Even if a previous owner has damaged the nut, it is better to replace it. When tightening the nut to the specified torque, continue until the hole for a notch in the nut aligns and secure it with a split pin.
