Description
According to Volkswagen specifications, gearbox oil should not be changed. Just topping up every 10,000 km until it overflows should be sufficient. The only thing Volkswagen prescribes is changing the gearbox oil 1000 km after a revision, which flushes the gearbox and removes any leftover sealant and other dirt from the revision.
It is necessary, however, to regularly clean the drain plug, which is equipped with a magnet that collects metal shavings. Metal shavings occur, among other things, when shifting while the clutch is not pressed down properly, resulting in a squeaking sound.
Keeping the fill plug closed will minimize oil loss when unscrewing the drain plug, simply topping up will then be sufficient.
