Description

The wheel bearings that keep the rear wheels turning are heavily loaded, which can cause a wheel bearing to break or wear out.
When a wheel bearing is worn, it produces a buzzing, humming, and/or whistling sound. The sound may be noticeable, for example, when turning left but not when turning right (or vice versa). This depends solely on how the bearing is loaded at that time.
For the VW Beetle, Karmann Ghia, and Kübel with swing axles, you have the choice between a wheel bearing kit with a basic sealing set and a version with a complete sealing set. The basic set not only lacks a few parts but is also of lower quality. The complete set, which includes all wearing parts, is of equal quality to the original.
Both the basic set and the complete set come with two gaskets, whereas Volkswagen has always used only one, namely between the back plate and the bearing housing cover. For better sealing, it is advisable to install a second gasket between the anchor plate and the bearing flange. In the complete set, this second gasket has a larger inner diameter, while the second gasket in the basic set is the same as the first. In the basic set, you will need to enlarge the inner diameter to fit it over the flange, whereas this is not necessary in the complete set. The complete set includes the outer spacer ring, not to be confused with the inner ring (located behind the bearing).
