Description
Primary shaft seal
If you have a leakage between the gearbox and the engine, you can determine whether it is motor oil or gearbox oil by the smell. In both cases, you will need to disassemble the engine.
If gearbox oil is leaking, replace the primary shaft seal without delay. Prolonged leakage can cause the gearbox suspension rubbers to become soft, leading to higher costs. Prevention is better than cure.
If motor oil is leaking, replace the crankshaft seal (behind the flywheel). It is also advisable to replace the flywheel seal now that the engine is dismantled.
After replacement, check the oil in the gearbox by removing the plug on the left side. The oil should now drip out slightly, or fill up to the edge with the correct oil.
