Leakage at the crankshaft oil seal is a common problem, and replacing the seal is the only solution.
Type 1, Type 3, and CT/CZ engines only have a seal behind the flywheel, on the pulley side they are sealed by rotating grooves in the pulley. If the engine leaks in this area, the grooves in the pulley may be worn out, but more often the casing in this area is worn out. In that case, the only solution is to install a Sand Seal pulley.
It is crucial that a seal is pushed evenly and exactly straight into the casing. If this is not done correctly, the leak will not go away. Therefore, the use of installation tools to mount the seal correctly is essential.
