Description
The brake light switch is mounted in the main brake cylinder and ensures that the brake lights come on when braking. There are also switches that can measure the pressure difference between the front and rear brakes (not applied to all models).
There are a total of three versions:
– a two-pole switch with a partition for older model years
– a two-pole switch without a partition for later model years, which are connected with a plug
– a three-pole switch
In a three-pole switch, there are always two switches mounted that control the brake lights, but also measure the pressure difference. If there is a warning light on the dashboard, you are dealing with a three-pole switch that measures the pressure difference between the front and rear brake circuits. This warning system was introduced by Volkswagen in the late 1960s, it was first applied to the luxury versions and in the mid-1970s it became standard on all models.
