The mounting plate on which the brake shoes and wheel cylinders are mounted is called a brake anchor plate, a Dutch term that may not be understood in many countries.

A better term would have been brake part mounting plate or backing plate, which would also appeal to Dutch speakers with little or no experience in mechanics.

Replacement is only necessary if they are too rusty.

Since the anchor plates are always exposed to the elements, there will be no Volkswagen where the anchor plates still look brand new.

If only the springs that block the adjustment mechanism of the brake shoes are broken, you do not need to purchase new anchor plates for this.
