Description
A collision where the axle shaft is bent can be a reason for replacement to be necessary, but very often the cause lies with the owner who has driven for too long with worn bearings. This can cause the tread of the axle shaft to wear down or, in extreme cases, even be partially burnt. If the keyways are gone, you can address this with the mechanic. If the rear axle nut is not tightened at the right time, play can occur and the keyways can be damaged to the extent that both the drum and the axle shaft must be replaced. Always consult your workshop manual before starting the job is the recurring advice. Don’t forget to order bearings immediately, it is not advisable to transfer them.
