Usually contact points need to be replaced after 10,000 km, as they are worn out or burnt. For safety, check the contact points every 5000 km. They are accessible after removing the distributor cap, the rotor, and any attached protective cover.

The new contact points need to be adjusted after installation. This is done using a feeler gauge of 0.40 mm (see related tab) and later with a contact angle meter (which should indicate between 44 and 50 degrees).
