Every time the brake drum is removed, it is necessary to renew the split pin. This ensures that the nut is secured, so that it can never come loose beyond the securing point. The loosening of the nut is almost always caused by the nut not being tightened to the correct torque. Consult your workshop manual for the correct torque and never tighten the nut by guesswork.
